The milling machine is used for shaping metal and other materials. Not only can the milling machine drill a hole straight down like a drill press, the material can be placed into the side of the tool and allow for shaping of the flanks. With a milling machine, many different tasks can be performed.

CNC machining centers are also available in job shops - It is not necessary that a manufacturer has to machine components on their own. In most cases, they would outsource specific tasks - i.e. tasks which involved CNC milling process, to CNC service providers.
CNC machines are able to survive to almost every form of manual machinery like the horizontal mills. Multi-axis machines are the mainly advanced feature of the CNC milling machine, it was added by two or more axes from the normal three axes, the XYZ.
