Manufacture a wide spectrum of components - Basically, the sizes of the advanced CNC milling machines determine the sizes of the components produced. It means that large machining centers are used to machine large parts and smaller machining centers vice versa. In fact, there are cases that components produced based on two different milling operations respectively - which can be done either horizontally or vertically.
CNC machines are able to survive to almost every form of manual machinery like the horizontal mills. Multi-axis machines are the mainly advanced feature of the CNC milling machine, it was added by two or more axes from the normal three axes, the XYZ.
At one time the machines were quite expensive to purchase and to operate. Now, because of the declination in the cost of computers and the availability of free operating systems, the CNC milling machines have dropped to more affordable prices. This has allowed many more shops to take advantage of this type of technology and has caused more competition in the machining industry. The shops now usually specialize in the type of work that they do.
CNC machining centers are also available in job shops - It is not necessary that a manufacturer has to machine components on their own. In most cases, they would outsource specific tasks - i.e. tasks which involved CNC milling process, to CNC service providers.
Fabricate complex components consistently without losing accuracy and precision - Perhaps your older machining centers have its own limitations and newer models are capable of performing complex milling operations based on CAM/CAD design. In other words, advanced CNC milling machines are able to perform multi-axis cutting and drilling operations - for instance, 4- and 5-axis machining centers; which means that these machines are capable to perform high detailed, fine and precision milling operations to fabricate components.
